  • Manchester City and Real Madrid are no longer pursuing the German international
  • A final decision is expected within ten days, with Bayer Leverkusen demanding €150M

Liverpool appears to be in an increasingly strong position to pull off one of the biggest transfers in Europe this summer by g Florian Wirtz. The German international has been linked for months with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. However, last week the English champions made a major move in the race after the Merseyside club arranged a visit for Wirtz and his family to England and personally expressed their strong desire for the German international to play at Anfield. Reports suggest that Liverpool organised this trip after receiving permission from Bayer Leverkusen. During their stay in England, Wirtz and his family also met with Manchester City. However, shortly afterward, all major media outlets in the UK reported that City had withdrawn from the race. Real Madrid is also currently not working on a transfer, leaving Bayern and Liverpool as the main contenders. 5k115f

Liverpool’s management has mobilised heavily and is using all available resources to complete the deal. Michael Edwards, CEO of Football for Fenway Sports Group, even travelled to Boston to personally secure approval from one of the club’s owners, John Henry. The meeting was arranged after the one with Wirtz’s family. It is claimed that his parents were impressed by Liverpool’s attitude and project, which has given the Reds additional hope.

This week, Wirtz is also set to meet with representatives from Bayern Munich, and according to Kicker, the player will make a final decision about his future very soon — within ten days.

Bayer are demanding €150 million for their star, while Bild reports that Bayern had a plan to offer €100 million and, if no agreement was reached with Leverkusen, try again in 2026. However, Liverpool may be set to disrupt those plans.
